Stone cellar originally belonging to the Wilhelm Haussmann Winery, subsequently Meyerhoff Winery, now the Burg family
The company Wilhelm Haussmann was founded in Traben in 1826; the production premises on Wilhelmstraße were built during the same year. In 1887 a production unit was added on Rissbacherstraße, known for many years afterwards as the "new" premises.
The famous stone cellar on Moselstraße, which extends under the hill almost as far as the war memorial, once belonged to this company too. The construction date of this stone cellar remains a mystery. The 37 metre-long vertical and upward-leading shaft at the end of the cellar might have something to do with the building of the Grevenburg, possibly serving as an "emergency tunnel". The pale quartzite deposits in the dark slate rock and the reinforcement of the vault at various points with brick insertions are especially impressive.
The barrel store was also constructed using bricks rather than the customary mottled red sandstone. This is a double cellar fifty and twenty five metres long respectively. The double cellar can only be reached from the street via a narrow passage. Until the end of the nineteen sixties this cellar was used by the Meyerhoff Winery.
