Cellar and wine production premises originally belonging to the Julius Kayser & Co Winery, now “Harry’s Restaurant”.
Prior to commissioning the Berlin architect Bruno Möhring to build his splendid Art Nouveau premises on Wolferweg in 1906, the influential wine merchant Julius Kayser submitted the following application in June 1897:
"The undersigned requests planning permission from the Königliche Bürgermeisteramt to reconstruct wine production premises on Grabenstraße in Trarbach according to the building plans and specifications, herewith submitted in duplicate. Since the vault of the existing cellar is currently exposed, a considerable quantity of wine being at the present time stored therein, I would ask that any permission be granted forthwith. Respectfully yours, Julius Kayser".
The former wine cellar is one of only a handful in Traben-Trarbach with a semi-circular vault, now sensitively converted into restaurant premises. A spiral staircase leads from here to the former production premises, used during the intervening period as a machine workshop. The section of the production premises which faces onto Grabenstraße features a "Prussian vault".
Join the underground tour to find out how the vault looks today and how the production premises were operated a century ago.
