The ambience of the Alte Zunftscheune located on Traben’s Neue Rathausstraße is symptomatic of the town’s tourist appeal - and not just with reference to its cuisine.
Beginning at street level, in premises where once a carpenter plied his trade, later to be supplanted by a wine merchant, a slow stepped descent reveals a series of interconnecting vaulted cellars once used by several minor wine producers.
A truly remarkable period gem housed here is the collection of countless tokens of traditional guild crafts associated with the kitchen, cellar and household from former times.
Having reached the back of the vaults and marvelling at the then modern technology of huge concrete barrels lined with glass tiles, visitors may either ascend the thirteen steps to street level or proceed through a connecting tunnel to the vault beneath Traben's Alt Rathaus.
